During Block 1, the Educ 390 Observation Practicum took place where I had the opportunity to visit 3 different Elementary schools with my tripod. The schools I visited in SD57 were Harwin, Buckhorn, and Glenview Elementary. Throughout these school visits, we were presented with a series of questions to guide our learning and focus our observations on. I found this experience overall to be very information and took away many key teaching strategies, ideas, and (most importantly) connections. Some of the key take-aways that I observed during my Educ 390 practicum were focuses on inclusivity, classroom culture, First Peoples Principles of Learning, classroom management, and connections between students with their teachers.
Observations
During my visit to Glenview Elementary, my observational goals were to notice what brings the school to life. I noticed the school culture, community, and connections between the staff and students were very strong at this school. From the moment of being greeted warmly by the admin staff, to every faculty saying hello in the hallway, it certainly felt like a very welcoming community! Another observation opportunity was looking for different social stories and inclusive learning. I noticed that many of the classrooms had zones of regulation to support student Social Emotional Learning. There was also many social stories and supports placed for students with exceptionalities throughout the school.
